![]() "Trends will come and go, but her wedding day will always be a magical moment in her life." "Overall, I always recommend a bride to remain true to herself when choosing a wedding look," adds Baker. At Neiman Marcus, Baker highlights overskirts as another one-"it gives them two looks and two silhouettes brides love having the drama while still being able to wear a form-fitting dress"-as well as off-the-shoulder and bateau necklines "as an updated alternative to strapless." ![]() Some of Bloomingdale's most popular brands for the occasion include Nookie, Bronx and Banco, Sau Lee, AQUA, Keepsake, Black Halo, and BCBG. "Our brides-to-be are loving jumpsuits, romantic off-the-shoulder silhouettes, ruffles, lace, mesh embroidery, and floral appliqué details," Shimokawa says of the major trends customers are buying into. And here's a pro tip for when to look: "We bring in white as early as February." Heather Shimokawa, Bloomingdale’s vice president of fashion direction (RTW), says customers come to the retailer "for non-traditional dress options for more casual garden or beach weddings," as well as for wedding-related events like bachelorette parties, bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, and so forth. "Today there is less emphasis on the designer’s name and more emphasis on choosing designs that help her feel her very best." If you're looking at dresses online-whether simply perusing or actually checking out-she recommends reading the fine print, particularly when it comes to return policies and measurements if you're not sure how something might fit, "order up a size," she says, "because alterations almost always have to be done to achieve the perfect fit." "Brides want to look and feel like themselves on their wedding day, so it’s important that they find pieces that represent their own personal style," Morgan Baker, Neiman Marcus' bridal buyer and salon manager, tells Glamour. Plus, you're more likely to come across a good sale at a department store, so it never hurts to browse. With a discerning eye, odds are you can find that perfect get-up at the places you already shop-a Theory jumpsuit at Bloomingdales, for instance, or a Brock Collection gown at Barneys New York. Some online-only stores, like Revolve and Forward by Elyse Walker, curate an edit of wedding and bridal-esque looks from a range of designers (from the Victoria Beckhams to the indie-beloved Alessandra Riches) and at a range of price points. Many of these retailers-like Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bergdorf Goodman-have proper bridal salons in stores, though they carry plenty of white gowns and suits that could be purchased off the rack. Suffice it to say, there are plenty of different routes you can go for picking out what you're going to wear on your special day-but there's one much more familiar destination that remains one of the best (and underrated) options for brides: the good ol' department store. ![]() Then there are the legendary designers, like Vera Wang and Amsale, that have set the trends in this space for years. Fast-fashion behemoths like ASOS and H&M have dabbled in wedding wear, too. ![]() You have your traditional bridal destinations, your Kleinfelds and BHLDNs you have your indie destinations, like Stone Cold Fox and Floravere. ![]()
